Through My Lens: garden in july 2023

BLACK MISSION FIGS | Two years planted in the ground.  Second year harvest.  Delicious and sweet and great with a drizzle of honey.

GENOVESE BASIL

GENOVESE BASIL | We plant this every July in the garden, zone 9b.  It is a staple herb for us.  Our favorite way to use this is making Thai Chicken Basil eaten with a bed of white jasmine rice.  We prune this often to prevent the plant from bolting.  We allow it to become a bush though the summer growing season.

CHINESE JUJUBE 'LI' DATE

CHINESE JUJUBE 'LI' DATE | Planted this tree in 2020. This fruit tree is prolific and drought tolerant.  Fruit is ripe when they turn brown.  We like to eat them crunchy so we harvest them when they are half brown.
